About Playbix
Last updated 11 August 2026
An independent place to publish and find Android games and apps, with the safety checks written down rather than implied.
What this is
Playbix distributes Android apps as APK files, outside Google Play. Developers publish here, people install from here, and we sit in the middle doing the checks that make that reasonable.
We are not affiliated with Google, Google Play, or Android. Android is a trademark of Google LLC.
What we actually check
- Malware scanning. Every uploaded file goes through multiple antivirus engines. A file several engines call malicious never gets published.
- Signature pinning. We record a developer's cryptographic signing key on their first release and permanently require it thereafter. If someone steals a developer's account, they still cannot ship a tampered update to people who already installed the app — the database itself rejects it.
- Manual review. A person approves every developer account and every app before first publication. This is the one step we have deliberately not automated.
- Permission transparency. Listings show what an app can access, read from the app file rather than from what the developer claims.
What we don't claim
None of the above is a guarantee. Antivirus engines detect known threats, not novel ones. Human reviewers are not infallible. Installing software from outside Google Play means extending some trust to us and to the developer, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a safety we cannot deliver.
Our installation guide explains what Android's warnings mean and how to check an app before installing it.
What is not allowed here
Cracked, modded and re-signed builds of other people's software are banned, and that ban is enforced. So is malware, IP theft, and content that is illegal or targets children. Adult content is not permitted at all. The full rules are in the Developer and Content Policy.
Publishing
Registration is currently free. Applications are reviewed by hand, usually within a few days. Apply as a developer.
